Earth

An other part of the four elements, the earth, wich we take literally here.
Sand of the desert, in structures blown by the wind, looks like paciently organized parts of an organic body. This body is combined with a structure of the human body. In this case we are one with the element "earth". The desert is a barren place where we possibly can die of thirst and lonelyness, but it can also be a symbolic garden to meditate and meet our deepest fears and dreams. In that case, we will need the desert as hard as we need water...

Air to breath

It is a while ago that all the elements were triggering me.
I made a few paintings with the 4 elements, combined with a microscopic view of the same theme. This one is AIR, a typhone in the back, combined with the structure of the lung, the alveoli, a symbol for air, of the human body. Sometimes nature can be very destructive, but still we can't live without the elements.

An old but esthetical European map

Maps always facinated me since I was young. A beautifull pattern of lines, the borders of countries, rivers and than the millions of weird names of each town whereever it exists. Every country in Europe has it's own language, it used to have its own coins, but that is changed nowadays.
Another thing what has been changing our routine and way of traveling is that almost everybody has its own GPS. Nobody has to look closely to a country- or citymap anymore because this wonderfull satelite system shows us around. What about all those cartographers and map-makers.... Are they unemployed right now? What about all those old fashioned crafts like landschape painters, now we have very easy cameras. Oil paint is almost forbidden but a good painter is still hot fortunately.
I keep prefering watching maps instead of using that familiar and populair "tom-tom".
I want to find my way home in an old-facioned way!
